Reduce Hair Growth, Keep It Simple
Men choose laser hair removal for a range of reasons: to reduce dense growth on the chest, back or shoulders, to tidy the beard line, to make grooming quicker, or to ease the razor bumps and ingrown hairs that frequent shaving can cause.
At Tanuva Aesthetics we use the Candela GentleMax Pro, a dual-wavelength system that lets us adjust settings for coarse, dense hair and for a range of skin tones. Treatment is carried out as a course, as hair grows in cycles.

How It Works
Light from the laser is absorbed by the pigment in the hair and converted into heat, which targets the follicle and reduces its capacity to grow new hair over a course of sessions.
Male body hair is often coarser and denser than female body hair, which can mean stronger initial growth patterns and a different number of sessions. A burst of cooling is delivered with each pulse to protect the skin surface and improve comfort.
Concerns It May Help With
- Dense hair growth on the back, shoulders or chest
- Razor bumps, ingrown hairs and irritation from shaving
- Time spent shaving or trimming each week
- An uneven or low-sitting beard or neck line
- Hair growth that returns quickly after shaving
- Discomfort from body hair under sports or work clothing
Potential Benefits
- A gradual reduction in hair density across a course of sessions
- Fewer ingrown hairs and less shaving irritation for many clients
- Large areas such as the back treated within one appointment
- A tidier beard outline when a defined shape is wanted
- Settings selected for coarse hair and your individual skin tone
- Sessions carried out under medical supervision
Areas That Can Be Treated
- Beard line, cheeks and neck, for shaping rather than full removal where preferred
- Back and shoulders
- Chest and abdomen
- Arms and underarms
- Legs
- Intimate areas
- Other suitable facial and body areas discussed at consultation
During Your Appointment
- Consultation and patch test before your first session, with a minimum wait afterwards so we can check how your skin responds
- The area is cleansed and shaved if needed, and protective eyewear is provided
- Settings are selected for hair density, the area and your skin tone
- The handpiece is passed over the area in sections, with cooling delivered alongside each pulse
- A soothing product is applied and aftercare is explained
- A back or chest treatment typically takes longer than a small facial area
Downtime & Aftercare
- Redness and small raised bumps around the follicles are common and usually settle within a few hours to a day
- Avoid the gym, saunas, steam rooms, swimming and hot showers for 24 to 48 hours
- Use a high factor SPF on exposed treated areas and avoid sunbeds during your course
- Do not wax or pluck between sessions; shaving is fine
- Treated hairs may appear to grow for one to three weeks as they shed
- Avoid aftershave, perfumed products and exfoliants on the area for a few days

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about laser hair removal for men. If your question is not answered here, please ask us at your consultation.
How many sessions will I need?
A course is usually needed, with sessions spaced several weeks apart. Coarse, dense areas such as the back and chest often need a different number of sessions than finer areas. We estimate this at consultation and review your response as your course progresses.
Can I have my beard line shaped rather than removed?
Yes. Many men ask us to treat the neck and cheek line to create a cleaner outline while keeping the beard itself. We map the area with you before treatment so we are both clear on what will be treated, as reduction in this area is not easily reversed.
Will it help with ingrown hairs and razor bumps?
Reducing the number of hairs growing in an area often reduces ingrown hairs and shaving irritation for clients who are troubled by them. Response varies between individuals, and we will assess your skin before treatment.
Does laser work on grey or very fair hair?
The laser targets pigment, so grey, white, very blonde and red hairs respond poorly. If your hair has little pigment we will tell you at consultation rather than start a course that is unlikely to help.
Is it painful?
Most men find it manageable. The sensation is usually described as a hot flick against the skin, and cooling is delivered with every pulse. Denser areas can feel more intense during the first sessions and usually become easier as hair reduces.
What should I do before my appointment?
Shave the area 12 to 24 hours before, avoid sun exposure and sunbeds beforehand, and arrive with clean skin without deodorant, creams or fake tan. Tell us about any medication you take, as some increase sensitivity to light.
