Smoother Skin, Without the Daily Routine
Laser hair removal offers women an alternative to shaving, waxing and epilating. At Tanuva Aesthetics we use the Candela GentleMax Pro, a dual-wavelength laser system that allows us to select the most appropriate setting for your skin tone and hair type.
Treatment is carried out as a course of sessions rather than a single appointment, because hair grows in cycles and the laser is most effective on hair in its active growth phase. The number of sessions needed varies from person to person and is discussed with you before you begin.

Every treatment begins with a consultation with our doctor-led team.
How It Works
The laser emits a beam of light that is absorbed by the pigment within the hair. That light energy converts to heat, which targets the hair follicle and reduces its ability to produce new hair.
A cooling system directs a burst of cryogen onto the skin moments before each pulse, which helps protect the surface and makes the treatment more comfortable. Most clients describe the sensation as a warm flick against the skin.
Concerns It May Help With
- Unwanted facial or body hair
- Regrowth that returns quickly after shaving or waxing
- Ingrown hairs and the bumps that can follow hair removal
- Irritation caused by frequent shaving or waxing
- Hair growth linked to hormonal changes, following medical assessment
- Time spent on daily or weekly hair removal
Potential Benefits
- A gradual reduction in hair density over a course of sessions
- Finer, lighter regrowth between appointments for many clients
- Treatment of larger areas such as legs in a single visit
- Less reliance on shaving and waxing day to day
- Settings selected for your individual skin tone and hair type
- Sessions carried out under medical supervision
Areas That Can Be Treated
- Face and neck, including upper lip and chin
- Underarms
- Arms, forearms and hands
- Legs, full or lower
- Chest, abdomen and back
- Bikini line, extended bikini and intimate areas
- Other suitable facial and body areas discussed at consultation
During Your Appointment
- Consultation and patch test before your first session, with a minimum wait afterwards so we can check how your skin responds
- The area is cleansed and shaved if needed, and protective eyewear is provided
- Laser settings are selected for the area, your skin tone and your hair type
- The handpiece is passed over the area in sections, with cooling delivered alongside each pulse
- A soothing product is applied at the end and aftercare is explained
- Appointment length ranges from a few minutes for a small area to around an hour for larger areas
Downtime & Aftercare
- Redness and slight swelling around the follicles is common and usually settles within a few hours to a day
- Avoid heat: no hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, swimming pools or strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours
- Use a high factor SPF daily on treated areas exposed to the sun, and avoid sunbeds throughout your course
- Do not wax, pluck or thread between sessions, as the follicle needs to be present for the laser to work; shaving is fine
- Treated hairs may appear to be growing for one to three weeks as they shed from the follicle
- Avoid perfumed products, exfoliants and retinoids on the area for a few days

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about laser hair removal for women. If your question is not answered here, our team is happy to talk it through with you.
How many sessions will I need?
Most clients have a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart, with the interval depending on the area being treated. The number needed varies according to hair type, hair colour, the area and individual factors such as hormones. We give you an estimate at your consultation and review your progress as you go.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
Laser treatment is described as permanent hair reduction rather than permanent removal. Many clients see a lasting reduction in density and finer regrowth, and some choose occasional maintenance sessions. Results vary between individuals.
Does it hurt?
Most clients find it very manageable. The sensation is often described as a warm flick or a light elastic band snap, and the cooling burst delivered with each pulse helps considerably. Sensitivity can be higher around the time of your period and on finer-skinned areas such as the upper lip and bikini line.
Can it treat blonde, red, grey or white hair?
The laser works by targeting pigment, so it is less effective on hair with little or no pigment. Blonde, red, grey and white hairs respond poorly. We assess your hair colour and type at consultation and will tell you honestly if laser is unlikely to suit you.
Can I have treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
We do not carry out laser hair removal during pregnancy. If you are breastfeeding, please discuss this with us at consultation so we can advise you individually.
What do I need to do before my appointment?
Shave the area 12 to 24 hours beforehand, arrive with clean skin free of make-up, deodorant, creams and fake tan, and avoid sun exposure or sunbeds in the weeks before your session. Let us know about any new medication, as some can increase light sensitivity.
